LAKE CHARLES — McNeese Beach Volleyball made history Friday with a 4-1 win over Tarleton State University on the first day of the Cowgirl Beach Bash, the first win in program history in its first year.
The Cowgirls started the game by scoring the first two points from Pair 2 (harley tapper/riley lansing) and four pairs (Jolie Savoie/Nadia Manitsas). Tarleton State earned its only points of the match with a three-set win from the fifth pair.
The Cowgirls' No. 3 pair won in straight sets 21-12, 21-16 (Kendall Osgood, Ella Swan Cigar) clinched the game with a 3-1 lead, marking the Cowgirls' first win of the season. 1st place final pair (Carissa Cheney/Gracie Janes) won 21-18, 21-15 and finished the match with her fourth Cowgirl point.
Earlier in the day, the Cowgirls lost to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 5-0 in their season opener.
The second and final day of the tournament will feature Cal Poly taking on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 9 a.m. The Cowgirls will play 20 games.th They will play ranked Cal Poly at 11 a.m. and Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. The Texans will play Nichols at 3 p.m. McNeese concludes the tournament with a game against Nichols at 5 p.m.
