UCLA men's basketball has received a major commitment from McDonald's All-American point guard Trent Perry. The four-star recruit out of Harvard-Westlake originally committed to the University of Southern California and signed a national letter of intent with the Trojans last November. However, he resigned after former USC head coach Andy Enfield left to take the same position at SMU. On Wednesday, Perry officially announced that he will be joining the Bruins.
“We are thrilled that Trent Perry has chosen to become a Bruin,” UCLA head coach Mick Cronin said via UCLA Communications. “He had a very successful high school career at Harvard-Westlake, where he was coached very well by Dave Rebibo. He stepped up in key moments many times and led his team to victory. With an impressive array of individual awards, including back-to-back California State Championship and Gatorade California Basketball of the Year honors, Trent is a dynamic playmaker. He has established himself and we believe that his potential for continued success is very high. We look forward to having him join Westwood. ”
During his senior season at Harvard-Westlake, Perry averaged 18.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. He also won his league MVP award for the second time in Mission and the California Gatorade Player of the Year.
“What attracted me? [to UCLA] That means we have a good opportunity to turn things around after this last season, and I want to do it for my hometown,” Perry said, via ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi. .
Perry will be recruiting fellow UCLA transfers Kobe Johnson, Skye Clark, Eric Daley Jr., Dominick Harris, Tyler Bilodeau, and others to rebuild a Bruins team that had its worst season under Mick Cronin last year. He will join William Kyle III. After a relatively lost year for the Bruins, Cronin went out and added these transfers, this time adding Perry to help reshape UCLA's roster into competitive shape. . His 2024-25 UCLA basketball season has officially become even more exciting.
