During Thursday's workout, Braylon Collier noticed Iowa wide receivers coach John Budmeyer watching. The Sandusky (Ohio) Perkins High School wideout appreciated that and decided to let the Hawkeye assistants know how he felt.
It turns out more good news is on the way. Budmeyer informed Collier that Iowa State was offering him a scholarship.
“This offer meant the world to me,” Collier told HN.
It became a milestone for him.
“This is my first offer from the Big Ten, so I've talked about wanting to play Power 5/Power 4 college football since I was a kid, so it's really crazy to see that dream come true,” he said. .
Collier (6-1, 170) caught 80 balls for 1,164 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior last fall. He also played basketball and baseball in high school.
Iowa State University reportedly offered Collier a scholarship on April 9th. He also claimed opportunities from nine different MAC programs.
Collier announced Thursday that he will take an official visit to Iowa from June 14-16. He was still coordinating dates with Hawkeye officials.
“Coach Budmeyer gave me June 7-9 and June 21-23. Baseball could still be played the weekend of the 7th, so maybe the weekend of the 21st. “It will be. But nothing has been decided yet,” he said.
Collier is looking forward to returning to Iowa to check out the Hawkeyes.
“Iowa is beautiful. I went there once to visit Iowa State and it was really nice,” he said.
“(Iowa) Coach (Kirk) Ferentz has something special going on at Iowa and I'm excited to see it.”
Academics will play a key role in Collier's final decision. He looks forward to learning more about Iowa and what Iowa State has to offer during his official visit.
“I want to study business, more specifically sales and marketing, in college. I feel like this is a good major for me because I want to own my own business one day. The demand for business is… It's never going to go away,'' he said.
Collier's junior highlight video revealed a receiver who often turns defenders on his heels. That comes from excellent straight-line speed and crisp route running.
