Five Northeast Georgia area boys soccer teams began their postseason run Wednesday in the Georgia High School Association playoffs.
However, only two people were able to achieve victory and advance to the second round in their respective weight classes.
Class A Division 1 Rabun County was able to defeat Oglethorpe County 3-0 in its opening game. The Wildcats were one of three Region 8-A D1 teams to advance Wednesday.
In Class 3A, Dawson County defeated Adairsville 4-0 at Tiger Stadium. But also in Class 3A, West Hall suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 decision on the road to No. 8 Bremen, and Lumpkin County also lost 3-0 on the road to No. 5 Coahura Creek.
Class A Division 2 Towns County received a bye in the first round and was unable to play Wednesday.
In Class 5A, Jefferson fell behind early against Chapel Hill and never recovered, losing 3-1 at Memorial Stadium.
Dawson County will have a big challenge in the Class 3A Sweet 16 against No. 3 Hebron Christian, which defeated Carver-Atlanta 10-0 in its opener.
Rabun County, in Class A D1, has an even bigger task ahead of them in the second round against No. 1 ranked Atlanta International. Stranta International won the Class A private state title in 2022.
