BLUNTSTOWN, Fla. (WMBB) – Just one month after Greg Jordan resigned, Blountstown High School has hired Brad Wagoner to replace him as the Tigers' head football coach.
Wagoner comes to Blountstown with 20 years of coaching experience in both high school and college after playing DI football at Georgia Tech.
He most recently served as the head football coach at Gatlinburg-Pitman High School (Tennessee), where the team has gone 29-9 over the past three seasons and 22-4 over the past two seasons.
Prior to joining GPHS, Wagoner coached at South Pittsburgh High School (Tenn.), Elbert High School (Georgia) and Trousdale High School (Tennessee), leading both South Pittsburgh and Trousdale to state final appearances.
He began coaching as a graduate assistant at the University of Alabama before being hired as an assistant at the University of West Alabama.
Wagoner spent the next 10 years as a high school head coach in Georgia, Alabama and Florida, including Chattooga High School (Georgia), Decatur High School (Alabama) and Lumpkin County High School (Georgia).
Wagoner returned to his alma mater, Georgia Tech, where he served as associate director of player personnel for three years (2014-2017).
Coach Wagoner said the school had been interested in opening Blountstown for several years before hiring Greg Jordan in 2022.
Jordan returned for his second stint in Blountstown to coach a talented DI program in its quest to win the Class 1A state championship. He could not get his job done and resigned after two seasons as the special senior class graduated.
Wagoner said her family has vacationed in the Panhandle for years and was always drawn to the area. He also has a son in middle school who attends Blountstown and is looking forward to the opportunity to coach him.
Wagoner said Blountstown's winning tradition and small-town culture inspired him to accept the position.
“They’re hungry to win another state championship, so that’s what really drew me there,” Wagoner said. “They're hungry and they support their football program and the community supports that program. And there's something very special about the Friday night lights in that small town. There is.”
Wagoner and his family are still in the process of moving from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to the Panhandle. He is scheduled to be on campus to coach spring football at the end of April.
