KEALAKEKUA โ Konawaena boys volleyball continued its strong start to the season Wednesday at Kealakekua.
The Wildcats faced an already strong Parker team, winning 25-6, 25-12, 25-20 for a straight-set victory.
Kona's natural passing and chemistry created a lot of looks for the attackers to score points, and his opening serve was spiked. The Bulls tried to catch up, but the Wildcats' high-powered offense featuring Ellison Morgan, Elijah Morgan, Travis Nakamoto, and Mana Diaz was too much for the Waimea team to handle.
Kona, who is 2-0, will look to continue his strong start against Kau with an away first serve scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m. Parker (3-1), who started 2024 at 3-0, will look to get back to his form against Ka-Umeke. First serve is scheduled for Tuesday at 5pm on the street.
Hilo 3, Kealakehe 0
The Hilo High School boys volleyball team opened the season with a dominant victory over Kealakehe, winning the BIIF Division I title.
The lead went back and forth in the first set. The score was tied 22-22 near the end of the second half, but a kill by Palikap Wilson and two consecutive errors by the Waveriders gave the Vikings a 25-22 victory.
Hilo held a slim 1-3 point lead for much of the second set before pulling away in the teens and ultimately winning 25-18. The Vikings continued to dominate until the third set, winning 25-18.
Hilo (1-0) plays DI's next game tonight at home against Keaau High School (0-1). JV first serve is set for 5 p.m., followed by varsity.
The Riders, now 0-1, will return to the Eastside on Saturday morning to take on KS Hawaii (1-0).
JV Score: Hilo won 2-0 (29-27, 25-20).
Kau 3., Kaumeke 1
Kau High School opened the season with a road win Wednesday, defeating Kaumeke Kaeo PCS in a close four-set match in Hilo's Keaukaha neighborhood.
The Trojans won the first set 25-16 and took the lead. Ka Umeke responded by winning the second set 26-24.
From there, Kau put the pressure on again, winning the third and fourth sets 25-18 and 25-17, respectively.
Ka Umeke (0-1) is scheduled to return to BIIF Division 2 action today, taking on Makualani Christian (0-1) at Old Kona Airport.Ka Umeke is scheduled to return to Keaukaha on Tuesday for a home game against Parker School.
The Trojans will be looking to get better as their first home game this week is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. against Honokaa High School (0-1).
