The Bentonville High School football team has partnered with Convoy of Hope and Life Church in Rogers to box up food, water and other supplies for those in need.
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Over the past few days, the Bentonville High School football team has been out in the community helping those in need, cutting branches on May 28 and partnering with Convoy of Hope and Life Church in Rogers on May 29 to pack boxes for those affected by the May 26 tornado.
Head coach Jody Grant said those are values she wants her kids to learn.
“One of the things we teach is to have a servant heart and look for opportunities to help others. It's not hard to get kids to come and help out. I think it's an important experience,” Grant said.
“The community comes out every Friday night to support us, so it's the least we can do to help out,” senior quarterback Trevor Grant said.
“Our community comes out to watch our games and cheer us on, so it's just coming together and helping the community out,” junior wide receiver Jack Dunn added.
Students said this will not only help give back to the community, but also help the team work better together on the field.
“This is very important to us and helps us grow closer as a team,” Dunn said.
“It's important to us to come together as a team and be like a family. We can help each other out through volunteering. It doesn't have to be here,” added Tigers senior linebacker/safety Luke Fusselman.
The pastor of Life Church in Rogers is grateful for their assistance.
“Although these times are tragic, it is also beautiful to see our community come together to support one another and look for opportunities to serve and make a difference,” said Rev. Ben Shanahan.
“Lifting all those boxes and moving around, I think that counts as their exercise today,” Grant said.
The Tigers have already begun summer practice and are scheduled to begin their season on Aug. 23.
