Benton boys basketball coach Todd Martinez has resigned, according to Principal Whitney Clark, but the reason for his resignation was not disclosed.
Martinez, who co-coaches with his wife Toni Martinez, joins girls basketball coach Mary Ward and softball coach Tracy Rambin as coaches at Benton who are retiring this school year. Ward and Lambin are retiring due to their years of service with Louisiana schools.
Benton athletic director Reynolds Moore said he could not comment on personnel matters, and Martinez, a past Shreveport Times All-City Coach of the Year, did not immediately return an email seeking clarification. Ta.
However, his son, who played on the Tigers team in 2023-2024, is scheduled to graduate this spring.

Martinez went 75-110 at Benton, his only winning season coming in 2020-21 when the Tigers went 19-8. He replaced Tim Crum at Benton, and the team went 6-8 in District 1-4A the previous year under Crum and 15-16 overall.
Martinez previously coached at Captain Shreve and was a three-time District 1-5A Coach of the Year and named Northwest Louisiana FCA Coach of the Year. He coached the Gators to league titles in his 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons. He is a camp director and co-founder of FCA Coaches Care, a free basketball camp for kids ages 6 to 15.
Benton recently hired Lindsey McConathy as the girls basketball coach and Shelby Leach as the softball coach.
