Edmunds was joined by Jets linebacker Quincy Williams and Great Britain Women's Flag stars Ellie Thorpe, Kelly Barrett and Kate Bruinbels.
“Just having the opportunity to come out with the Bears and get behind what they do meant a lot,” Edmunds said. “Just supporting the girls out there, getting involved, giving them words of encouragement, and giving them the affirmation that there's light at the end.” A peek into the tunnel of what they want to do with their lives. Seeing how much fun they were having and the passion and excitement they had, it meant a lot just to witness that. The energy was there.
“When you look at the impact it has on the world, other countries want to join in and get behind this and start participating. I think this is just the beginning. And I think this is something special. I think this is the beginning of something new.”
In just one year, the league has nearly doubled in size from 12 to 21 teams, competing in two conferences spanning the London boroughs of Ealing and Lambeth. He more than doubled the number of participants from 120 to 260.
Ms Barrett has seen the growth of women's flag football and American football in the UK in recent years. She believes these types of events hosted by NFL teams empower young girls to participate in sports.
“I think it's unbelievable,” Barrett said. “When you think of American football, you think of the NFL. So I think it's huge to know that NFL teams are trying to empower women in an inherently male-dominated sport. .I think the fact that they're willing to contribute to American football.''
