Oregon State beach volleyball suffered a loss to No. 6 TCU on Friday night in the weekend's opening game, Battle of the Bay. Additionally, the Ducks' scheduled game against host and second-place Stanford University was canceled due to inclement weather in the area.
On the final day of the Battle of the Bay, Oregon State faced tough competition, losing two close games to St. Mary's (Calif.) and San Jose State. But amidst the challenges, the Ducks found a silver lining with No. 3 pair Jensen Kaelin and Ashley Schroder completing a perfect 2-0 record on the day.
Ducks fall to 6th place TCU Friday Night
The team, ranked No. 6 in the country, won on courts 2 and 4 and quickly extended their lead to 2-0. In the second set, the Ducks' duo of Landry Coates and Bela Gamache struggled, giving TCU a 10-12 lead in the first set before TCU stormed back and secured nine of the next 10 points. and won the first set.
TCU clinched the dual crown with a win at No. 1 in the lineup, then completed the sweep with wins on Courts 5 and 3, respectively. The pair of Sophie Gregoire and Ashley Schroeder had a tough battle with third place Caitlin Bradley and Luana Araco, trading points until the TCU pair took the final point.
The game was delayed for about an hour due to a 2-1 lead between Stanford and TCU, and ended with the home Cardinal winning 3-2.

One step closer to comeback vs. St. Mary's
The Gaels initially led 2-0, but Oregon State came back with wins on the third and first courts, respectively, to tie the score. However, the SMC pair of Nya Crump and Paolo Peralta secured the dual with a three-set victory over the fifth-place pair.
Kaelin and Schroeder defeated Angie Boulle and Allie Cataldo 22-20, 21-9 to give the Ducks their first points of the day and their first win of the season. Daley McClellan and Alina Valenti then defeated top of the lineup Sedona Sherman and Sadie Shipman in a three-set match to secure a draw.
Presley McCaskill and Isabel Patterson got off to a strong start taking the first set against Crump and Peralta, but the SMC duo also worked together to secure the team victory.

A back-and-forth battle with SJSU
McCaskill and Patterson bounced back from the disappointment of their last game to earn a hard-fought victory over No. 4 San Jose State by scores of 21-17, 18-21, and 15-7. This left the match tied at 1-all following SJSU's first win. MacAskill and Patterson lead the team in wins with three wins as a pair.
Despite a sweep on Court 5, San Jose State briefly regained the lead at 2-1. But Kaelin and Schroeder tied things up with a convincing 21-19, 21-12 win in the third pair. SJSU's Allen and Rice held a commanding 10-4 lead against McClellan and Valenti in the third set as Oregon State (1-7) tried to tie the score.
The Ducks couldn't overcome the deficit they set up late and ended up giving up two points, giving San Jose State the No. 1 spot and securing the win.

Oregon State heads to Tempe, Arizona to compete in the Pac-12 South Invitational Tournament (March 8-10). The Ducks will play UCLA and Stanford on March 9th.
