New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday invited applications for the post of head coach of the Indian men's cricket team for a three-and-a-half-year term as incumbent Rahul Dravid's tenure ends next year. . The T20 World Cup will be held in the Americas this month.
The deadline for submitting applications is May 27th.
“The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and evaluation of shortlisted candidates,” a BCCI media release said.
The new manager will take charge of the team from July 1, immediately after the T20 World Cup, and his term will run until December 31, 2027.
The BCCI has stipulated that candidates below 60 years of age must have played at least 30 Tests or 50 ODIs and have served in a role similar to that of a full member Test nation for a minimum of two years.
Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that Dravid will have to reapply if he wants to continue with the job after the T20 World Cup.
“Rahul Dravid's tenure is coming to an end. If he has to continue, he will have to reapply. We are looking for a long-term coach for three years,” Shah recently told some media outlets. I told you.
However, the proposed long tenure makes it difficult for Dravid to reapply, as he has already served in the role since November 2021.
His two-year contract was originally due to end when he completed 50 overs in the World Cup at home last year, but there was a lack of time to appoint a new manager ahead of India's tour of South Africa and the T20 World Cup. It has been extended to take into account the current situation.
However, the new manager will have some important duties during his term, which could start with the white-ball series in Sri Lanka in July.
There will then be two home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand before heading to Australia for the high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India is winning.
There will also be a Champions Trophy in Pakistan in 2025, followed by a tour of England that year. A year later, India and Sri Lanka jointly hosted the T20 World Cup, and a 50-over World Cup is also planned for South Africa in 2027.
The next coach will also have to deal with the transition from batting mainstay Virat Kohli and current captain Rohit Sharma, who are in a slump.
