CHATTANOOGA – (WDEF-TV) Amari Jefferson was a star receiver last fall, helping lead Baylor to the football state title game.
Now, he will be the star hitter for the Baylor baseball team in spring league.
News 12's Brian Armstrong emphasizes Jefferson's star power.
“He really played the best baseball I've ever seen him play, and he was fun to watch,” Baylor co-head coach Mike Kinney said.
Baylor's Amari Jefferson had a stellar career on the football field and baseball diamond at Baylor.
“Amari is one of the best players to have played in this city for a long time,” Kinney said.
Jefferson said: “It was great just to be one of those seniors and just to be able to help lead this group to there. It's amazing.”
Jefferson's baseball career includes winning a state title and breaking an aluminum bat. yes. It's broken. And Baylor is playing its best baseball now that it's back in the Spring Fling.
Kinney said: “And that guy played the best baseball that ever played, probably from a leader who didn't have center field and a lot of other people behind him that could break it out.'' It was just as good baseball as it was.”
Said Jefferson: “You know, we accomplished a bigger goal than just being McCurry.”
They defeated McCurry in the quarterfinals and series, advancing to the Spring Fling. Jefferson had 10 RBIs.
Kinney said: “He actually came over and said he wasn't going to play baseball today. I'm playing volleyball. I'm looking really good. I know they're trying to get me to chase stuff like that. And I trust the players behind me and the players in front of me. And if they let me take a walk, I'm going to take a walk.”
