(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys soccer team had low turnout last preseason. But this year, 25 players participated in preseason practice, nearly double the number of last year's team members.
Atlantic head coach Mark Andersen is pleased with the influx of players, led by a significant number of freshmen. He says it's not just freshmen. They have added many senior level students and athletes from Exira/EHK and his CAM's shared schools.
Andersen points to an outstanding group of seniors who returned with a wealth of experience.
Williams, who was a second-team all-conference player last season, returns to the goalie position for his fourth season. Meanwhile, coach Williams has been impressed with what he's seen in his winter and preseason practices.
Coach Andersen said the group's strength appears to be on defense.
The Trojans' superior numbers allow them to have more scrimmages. Atlantic will scrimmage at West Central Valley on March 22nd and open the season at Riverside on March 26th.
