men's basketball
The men's basketball team tragically ended its season this Saturday with a loss to Williams College in the NESCAC tournament semifinals. Charlie Randall '26 was able to get Amherst on the board first, but the top-seeded Effs quickly hit two straight 3-pointers. Unfortunately for Amherst, the game never really wavered from this narrative, as the score was 31-21 by halftime and 57-43 at the end of regulation. None of the Mammoths reached double-digit points.
men's ice hockey
Last Saturday, the men's ice hockey team ended its season with a loss to Hamilton College in the NESCAC tournament quarterfinals. The Continentals scored three scoreless goals in the first 30 minutes of the game, two of which came on the power play. Tyler Volk '24 was able to pull one back at the end of the second period, but by the time the third period began, Hamilton had reasserted a three-point lead. But in the final 10 minutes, the Mammoths outscored the Continentals 12-2. Their newfound intensity allowed them to score two goals within a 10-minute window, but it wasn't enough considering Hamilton advanced to the semi-finals after winning 4-3.
women's ice hockey
The 21-2-2 women's ice hockey team continued its strong run with a 2-0 win over Bowdoin in the NESCAC quarterfinals last weekend. The team was slumped by the trio of Maeve Reynolds ’26, Marie Eve Mahlea ’26, and Mary Thompson ’24. The latter two assisted on Reynolds' two goals, marking his fifth straight game with points. The team outscored Bowdoin by a wide margin in shots on goal, 36-23. The Polar Bears couldn't really apply pressure as Natalie Stott '26 recorded his ninth shutout of the season.
The women's ice hockey team will play Hamilton in the semifinals this Friday.
men's swimming and diving
The Amherst boys swim team placed third at the NESCAC Championships last weekend. Jeff Garber ’24, Emmanuel Audim ’26, Jayden Olson ’25, ’25, and Ethan Van de Water ’26 set a new school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:29.50. Garber also set a personal best in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.04. This time ranks in the top 15 nationally in DIII. In the 200-yard butterfly, Finnlan Nadel '26 swam 1:49.26 to take fourth place and set a new personal best. It was Amherst's seventh consecutive top-three finish at the NESCAC Championship.
Those who qualify will compete in the NCAA D-III Championships in late March.
men's track and field
Finishing third last weekend, the men's track and field team earned its second consecutive top-three finish at the New England D-III Championships, winning four meets in the process. The 4x800m relay team achieved their second consecutive victory. This time, the team consisted of sophomores Ben Davis (26), Will Nagy (26), Kolya Markov Lis (24), and Parker Boyle (27), and the team ran a time of 7:41.61. I finished on time. The distance medley team recorded a time of 10:05.16 for its first win in this event at the meet since 2015. Boyle and Davis also finished first in the 1,000-meter dash with times of 2:27.22 and 2:28.06, respectively. Michael Abbey Jr. '27 won the triple jump with a jump of 14.24 meters.
The team will compete in the NEICAAA Championship this weekend.
women's track and field
The women's track and field team won three events at the New England D-III Championships and placed third with 95 points. Eliza Cardwell '25 had a great weekend, winning the 60 meter hurdles in 8.64 seconds, setting a new school record, and winning the long jump in 5.68 meters. Eva Zielinski ’25, Bella Rozier ’26, Zoe Marcus ’27, and Piper Lenz ’26 broke the previous meet record set by MIT and the Amherst school record with a time of 9 minutes, 14.83 seconds. Marcus also placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:57.81.
The Mammoths will compete in the NEICAAA Championship this weekend.
