As the weather warms and spring gives way to summer, Swan Hills Swimming Pool will host its highly anticipated Triathlon on Sunday, June 2. Held every two years, this thrilling event will challenge participants of all ages and skill levels for a day full of fun, fitness and community spirit.
For those unfamiliar with what a triathlon is, it's a multi-sport event that consists of swimming, cycling and running. Participants compete in all three segments consecutively, testing endurance, speed and versatility. Triathlons vary in distance but always push athletes to their limits, making it an exhilarating experience for both participants and spectators.
This year's triathlon features nine categories to ensure inclusivity and encourage broad participation.
Age 4 and under
Ages 5-6
Ages 7-8
Ages 9-12
Ages 13-17
18+ – Short-term courses
18+ – Long Course
· Tag Teams Under 12
Tag team players ages 13 and up
A total of 82 athletes have registered for this year's triathlon, promising a lively and competitive atmosphere.
The detailed schedule for the day is as follows:
· 8:30am: 18+ – Long Course, Tag Team 13+
8.45am: 18+ – Short Courses; 13-17 years
9 a.m.: Under 12 Tag Team, ages 9-12
9:15am: Ages 7-8
9:30am: All events for ages 6 and under
All competitions will begin at Swan Hills Swimming Pool, which will serve as a central location for competitors to move between the swimming, cycling and running events. In past years, the triathlon has usually finished around midday with an awards ceremony held in the large gymnasium at Swan Hills School.
