Green is one color Colin Blackwell has yet to wear in his National Hockey League career, but that will change come September.
Dallas, the Western Conference finalist, signed the 31-year-old Blackwell as an unrestricted free agent to a $775,000, one-year contract on Tuesday. The former St. John's Prep star joins the Stars after spending the past two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks.
He is expected to bolster a bottom-six forward line for a team that has made deep playoff runs in recent years and is in the running to win a Stanley Cup, even though it's two games away from the Finals this spring.
“Colin is a talented forward who adds depth and experience to our lineup,” Dallas general manager Jim Nill said in announcing the signing. “We look forward to him joining us next season.”
Blackwell played in only 44 games last year because of injuries, but he recorded the second-most goals of his career (8) and had 12 points with two game-winning goals. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound Blackwell has 74 points (35 goals) in 235 NHL games with Nashville, New York Rangers, Seattle, Toronto and Chicago.
The North Andover native had the best senior season in St. John's Prep High School history in 2011 before attending nearby Harvard University. During his nine-year professional hockey career, he won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2021 IIHF World Championship.
