Third time seems to be the charm for the Duke basketball program.
After entering the transfer portal this offseason, Christian Reeves (Clemson) and TJ Power (Virginia) both opted to remain in the ACC, and Jaden Shutt also announced his commitment to Virginia Tech. I chose the same thing.
Schutt made the announcement on social media Saturday night.
But unlike Reaves and Power, who won't return to Durham next season, Schutt will.
Duke University is scheduled to host the Hokies in the winter, but a date has not yet been set.
The 6-foot-5 guard had a tough two seasons in Durham, appearing in just 14 games as a freshman and shockingly missing the Blue Devils' blowout win in the season opener. It was later revealed that John Scheyer would redshirt next season.
Later, he injured his knee during practice and required surgery.
It is unclear whether he will be ready by the start of the season, but he still has three years of eligibility left.
Jaden Schutt entered Duke as a decorated shooter, but averaged just 2.1 points per game on 35.0 percent shooting (7-of-20) during his rookie season.
The Yorkville, Illinois native chose Virginia Tech over Dayton, Butler and DePaul. He was ranked as the No. 231 player in the transfer portal, according to . 247 sports.
Michigan State was at one time considered a strong candidate coming out of high school before he chose Duke.
Jalen Blakes is a Duke graduate who entered the transfer portal this spring after Jeremy Roach (Baylor), Mark Mitchell (Missouri) and Sean Stewart (Ohio State) found new homes, including transfers to the ACC. He was the only uncommitted player.
The Blue Devils added three transfer players to fill those roster spots: Malik Brown (Syracuse), Mason Gillis (Purdue) and Zion James (Tulane).
