Alvin Vesey (Bettendorf High School)
The Bettendorf boys basketball program has a new head coach, according to a news release from the district.
Alvin Vesey will be the new head coach of the Bettendorf boys basketball program, pending board approval, Bettendorf High School activities director Zach Shea said. He has over 17 years of coaching experience, the last 12 of which he served as an assistant at BHS. Vesey was an integral part of Bettendorf's 2023-24 season, as the Bulldogs finished as Mississippi Athletic Conference champions and advanced to the IHSAA state semifinals.
“Bettendorf High School has acquired a great coach and talent in Alvin Vesey,” Shea said. “Coach Vesey bleeds black and gold. He was a multi-sport athlete at BHS, playing football, basketball and track and field for the Bulldogs. His competitiveness, intensity, And his passion for developing young people on and off the court is exactly what we look for in our next basketball coach. Alvin loves the game and plans to continue taking Bettendorf boys basketball to new levels of success. Throughout my time as AD at Bettendorf High School, I have been impressed by Alvin's approach to building an elite culture and his desire to be fully immersed in every corner of Bulldog Nation. I couldn't be more excited about the future of our basketball program.”
Vesey graduated from Bettendorf High School in 2002 and earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Northern Iowa, where he played football for the Panthers. He and his wife Rona have his three children.
