ARITON, Ala. (WDHN) – Alliton High School senior athlete Ian Sen signed with Troy University as a preferred walk-on for football on Monday morning.
After playing most of his high school career as a quarterback, Sen will transition to receiver for the Trojans.
Sen has some experience at the position, having 14 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns last year.
Sen had the option of playing basketball, baseball, or football at the collegiate level. Once I decided to focus on football, I was committed to making it happen.
“I always wanted to play college sports,” Sen said. “I didn't know which way it was going to be, but when I got back to football I was determined to work hard and try to get to the next level. It takes a lot of hard work. I was here last weekend and I really can't stop. But it's okay because I love you.”
Signing as a preferred walk-on means Sen will start training with the team right away and have something to prove. Alliton head football coach Steve Kilcrease believes Senn will earn a scholarship by the end of the summer. Sen welcomes the challenge.
“Actually, I like it,” Sen said. “I think everyone is ignoring me. So I get in there and no one knows who I am. So I think I can sneak up and prove myself. .”
