Miami transfer Norchad Omie, the best frontcourt player in the portal, announced his transfer to Baylor on Sunday night.
Omie made his decision clear in a post on Instagram.
“My main goal has always been to help my team win at the highest level while continuing to grow as a person and basketball player,” he wrote. “I was fortunate enough to help lead the team to the Final Four, so I'm really looking forward to not only getting back there, but this time helping lead the team to a national championship.
“After considering all of this, I am at peace with my decision as all the signs led me in this direction. With that said, I have decided to commit to Baylor University and I can't wait to achieve these dreams together next year. “
The 6-foot-7 Nicaraguan native was a two-time All-ACC selection before entering the transfer portal in late April. He averaged a double-double in each of his four collegiate seasons, with 17 points and 10 rebounds per game last season.
Omie recorded 17 double-doubles in the 2023-24 season, including 33 points and 10 boards against Notre Dame and 20 points and 17 rebounds against Stonehill. He earned second-team All-ACC honors.
Omie averaged 13.1 points and 10 rebounds as a junior, leading Miami to the Final Four. He was named third-team All-ACC in 2022-23 and was one of the nation's elite offensive rebounders.
Omie began his collegiate career at Arkansas State University, where he earned Sun Belt Player of the Year honors in 2022 and first-team all-conference honors in both campaigns with the Red Wolves.
Baylor coach Scott Drew was in desperate need of a capable post player to complete his roster for the 2024-25 season, and Omie filled that role. The Bears are focusing on the perimeter with returning double-digit scorers Jaden Nunn and Langston Love, along with Jeremy Roach and top-five rookie VJ Edgecombe, who transferred from Duke.
