Shackel's previous personal best was 57.58, which she swam at the Indianapolis Sectionals in late March. She finished 6th at the 2023 U.S. Summer Championships. She needed 56.34 points to qualify the U.S. for the 2023 World Championships. Shackel swam at the 2023 World Championships as a member of the women's 4×200 freestyle relay. She is the fifth fastest American this season and 16th in the world.

Shackel wasn't the only swimmer named to the 2023 U.S. World Championship women's team this morning in the 4×200 free relay in Indianapolis.
