'New for everyone': Alabama football head coach Karen DeBoer participates in team's first spring practice
University of Alabama football head coach Karen DeBoer addressed the Crimson Tide community Monday after the team's first spring practice. “The first practice, as always, was full of energy and excitement, and it was a great day. You know, this one came quickly, started quickly, practice went fast. It was really, really clean. I, you know, I'm proud of our coaches, our staff and our players because they really understood what we were trying to accomplish today.'' You could see their desire, their desire, and I thought they came together in a really, really, really good way because of their effort.” Just a few days ago , DeBoer put the finishing touches on his coaching staff. “We have hired tight ends coach Brian Ellis, offensive line coach Chris Kapilovich and outside linebackers coach Christian Robinson. We were also able to secure three of the best coaches in the nation in Robinson,'' DeBoer said. “Chris is one of the most respected offensive line coaches in the game, with a reputation for recruiting and developing players. “Hey, all of a sudden, just like that, practice is over,” DeBoer said. “The first practice, as always, was full of energy and excitement, and it was a great day. You know, this one came quickly, started quickly, practice went fast. It was really, really clean. I'm so proud of our coaches, our staff and our players, you know, for really understanding what we're trying to accomplish today.
“In executing our concepts and plays, not just the execution on the football field, but also the transitions, as everyone knows, is new,” he continued. “And I thought they did a great job. You can see through the effort that they gave, the desire, the desire was there. And I really, really thought it came together in a great way. ”
Just a few days ago, Coach DeBoer made final adjustments to his coaching staff, hiring tight ends coach Brian Ellis, offensive line coach Chris Kapilovich and outside linebackers coach Christian Robinson.
“With the hires of Brian Ellis, Chris Kapilovich and Christian Robinson, we have three of the best coaches in the country to round out our staff,” DeBoer said. This game has a reputation for recruiting and developing players. Christian does a great job of building relationships both in recruiting and in the position room where he can get the best out of players. Ellis is one of the best offensive minds in college, a great fit for football and a great fit on our staff. ”
Previously, DeBoer named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan, as well as an assistant head coach, co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.

Rounding out DeBoer's core coaching staff is former South Alabama head coach Cain Womack, who will now lead the Crimson Tide's defense.
“Staff development is critical to any success as a head coach, and Cain Womack is a key component to the goals we are trying to accomplish at Alabama,” DeBoer said. “He's one of the best defensive minds in college football. Kane will play a big role in building the culture we need to win football games.”
