The Stark Public Special Olympics Royal Knights won the Special Olympics Ohio Division 3 State Basketball Championship this past weekend on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
On Sunday, the Royal Knights defeated the Marion County Hawks 52-27 at Straw Center. Corey Amatangelo scored a game-high 18 points for the Royal Knights, and teammate Max Bloom added 17 points. Jarrett Walter led the Marion Hawks in scoring with 13 points.
The Royal Knights defeated the Hilliard Bobcats 64-59 in the state semifinals at Perry Fieldhouse early Saturday. Amatangelo led the Royal Knights with 24 points, Max Bloom had 15 points and Jimmy Maurer had eight points and 26 rebounds. Sam Files led the Bobcats with 37 points, and teammate William Delarosa added 10 points.
The Royal Knights finished the season with a total of 11 wins and 5 losses. Here are the state tournament box scores:
