SALEM, Ore. — The Portland Pilots Beach Volleyball opened the regular season Friday against the Corban Warriors with a 5-0 loss.
The Portland 1s battled the Warriors, with Annika Sternberger and Sophie Lee pushing Corban to three sets. Unfortunately, Corban took the final set 15-12. His three-man and his four-man in Portland also came close to pushing the third set, but ultimately fell short. The final result was a 5-0 blowout for Corban, who is ranked No. 4 in the NAIA heading into this season and is competing in the NAIA National Championship for the second year in a row.
“After the first game this afternoon, I couldn't be more excited about our potential this season,” Portland head coach Dylan Hamilton said. “Even though the indoor crossover athletes have only been practicing for a few days, we competed extremely hard. We look forward to catching up again tomorrow morning.”
The Pilots will next face the Sacramento State Hornets and Bushnell Beacons. Both teams will play tomorrow, playing the Hornets at 10 a.m. and the Beacons at 12 p.m. Check out PortlandPilots.com for more information.
