OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators signed Mads Sogard to a two-year contract, maintaining their goaltending depth behind new goaltender Rinus Ullmark.
The first year of the contract announced Monday is a two-way deal and the second year is a one-way contract, worth $775,000 per year in the NHL and $225,000 per year in the American Hockey League.
A native of Aalborg, Denmark, Sogaard posted one win, three losses and zero ties with a 4.05 goals-against average and .859 save percentage in six appearances, including five starts, for Ottawa last season.
The former No. 37 overall pick by Ottawa in the 2019 NHL Draft, he appeared in 32 games with the AHL's Belleville Senators, posting 18 wins, nine losses and three draws with a 2.45 ERA and .916 save percentage.
The Senators revamped their goaltending corps last month by acquiring Ullmark, the 2023 NHL Vezina Trophy winner, in a trade with Boston.
Also on Monday, the Senators traded forward Robbie Gervente and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft to the Edmonton Oilers for forwards Xavier Bourgaard and Jake Chiasson.
Gervente, the 33rd overall pick by Ottawa in the 2020 NHL Draft, appeared in seven games for the Senators last season and recorded an assist.
He played 136 games with Belleville, recording 38 goals, 48 assists and 106 penalty minutes.
Bourgault, a native of L'Islett, Quebec, appeared in 55 games with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League last season, recording eight goals and 12 assists.
A native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Chiasson recorded nine goals and 11 assists in 69 games with the Fort Wayne Comets of the ECHL, and also had one scoreless game with Bakersfield.
