Princeton University has announced its 2024-25 men's ice hockey schedule, which will kick off the “Ben Sire Era” with a 29-game schedule that will include a whopping 17 home games at the historic Hobey Baker Rink.
In addition to the traditional 11 visits by ECAC rivals, the 2024-25 schedule also includes six non-conference home games for the Tigers, including weekend visits to Big Ten rival Ohio State (Nov. 29-30), Hockey East powerhouse New Hampshire (Jan. 3-4) and Atlantic hockey upstart Bentley University (Jan. 25-26).
The Buckeyes will make their first trip to Hobey Baker Rink, while New Hampshire will travel to Princeton for the first time since 1983.
“Announcements like this help get everyone excited about what's to come for Princeton hockey,” said Sayer. “The ECAC is a tough conference where there are no secrets between teams and you have to be prepared every night. We're also fortunate to be competing for the Ivy League title and are on track to win it in five of our first six games against Ivy teams. Mix in non-conference series with schools from the Hockey East, Big Ten and Atlantic Hockey and every night will be a test and our fans will get to see teams that haven't been to Baker Rink in a long time or at all. We hope it all comes together to create a great experience for our players, staff and supporters this season. I can't wait to be behind the home bench at Baker Rink and enjoy everyone's energy in such a historic environment.”
Jan. 17 will surely be circled on Coach Sayre's calendar as the Tigers host their first home game against Cornell University, where Coach Sayre spent 13 seasons as assistant coach and associate head coach. Coach Sayre's return to Ithaca will be early in the season on Nov. 23 when Princeton University visits Lena Rink.
The series with Cornell is one of two games the Tigers will play against ECAC rivals who reached the regional finals in 2024, the other being a traditional home-and-home matchup with Quinnipiac University on Jan. 10 and 11. The Tigers will first host the 2023 national champions before returning to Hamden the following night.
