The Planet Ice National Ice Hockey League (PINIHL) is pleased to announce the structure and game format for the 2024/25 season. With a focus on maintaining the thrilling competition that fans have come to love, the upcoming season will feature familiar elements while making some exciting changes to enhance the experience for both players and spectators.
Season structure and key dates
The 2024/25 PINIHL National Ice Hockey Season will see 11 teams competing in a format that is largely the same as the previous year. Teams will play each other three times at home and three times away. As in previous years, each team will play three times at home and three times away, resulting in a total of 54 regular season games. A table of the number of games played by each team can be found at the end of this release.
- PreseasonTo kick off the excitement, preseason games are scheduled for the weekends of August 30-September 1 and September 6-8. These games will provide a glimpse into the teams' preparations and strategies for the main season.
- Season opening weekendThe official season will kick off on the weekend of September 14-15, 2024, and we can expect some high-octane action right from the get-go.
- Final game of the regular seasonThe regular season will conclude the weekend of March 22-23, 2025, setting the stage for the playoffs.
- play offFollowing last year's format, the playoffs will be played over three weekends, March 29-30, April 5-6 and April 12-13, 2025.
- Coventry WeekendThe season's culmination, Coventry Weekend, will take place on 19-20 April 2025, with top teams competing for ultimate glory.
Cup Tournament
This season's cup competitions will be streamlined to a more intense and exciting format. The qualifying stage will consist of 10 matches instead of the previous 20. Each team will play every other team once, with five home matches and five away matches. The cup semi-finals and finals (both consisting of two legs, one home and one away) are scheduled to be completed by the end of December due to match schedule conflicts.
Ticket sales and announcements
Pre-season fixtures will be announced in the coming days, followed by the full match schedule. Tickets are expected to go on sale later in the summer, giving fans ample opportunity to secure their seats for can't-miss matches.
