Washington DC – Ayodele Adeniye Adeniye, a member of the Adrian University NCAA Men's Hockey Team, was recently invited to attend the Washington Capitals Development Camp in Washington, D.C. The Capitals Development Camp is Adeniye's first step in pursuing a career in professional hockey. Adeniye will use the camp to try to earn a contract in the ECHL or AHL.
“I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity at the development camp,” Adeniye said. “I'm thankful for the opportunities and growth Adrian College has given me. I'm also grateful to be the first person to have had this opportunity from the program, but I hope this experience opens the door for others to have the same opportunity.”
Adeniye began his collegiate career at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, appearing in 21 games during his freshman season before transferring to Adrian College. At Adrian, he appeared in 84 games and totaled four goals and 19 assists as a defenseman. Adeniye was also a member of the 2022 National Championship team, the 2023 National Runner-Up team and the most recent 2024 National Semifinalist team.
“Ayo has worked extremely hard for this opportunity,” said Adrian College NCAA men's hockey head coach Adam Krug. “From day one when he arrived at Adrian, he has been process and goal-oriented, and it's great that he was able to achieve this goal. The opportunity to get on the ice with an NHL organization is great for Ayo, Adrian College and Division III hockey.”
Adrian College men's hockey is known for professional signings following their time with the Bulldogs. In the history of the program, 43 Adrian College men's hockey graduates have signed professional contracts. Four members of the 2023-24 team have already signed professional contracts, with two more expected to sign by the end of the summer.
