The college basketball season is still a few months away, but the date has been set for this year's Battle of the Bluegrass. New head coaches Mark Pope and Pat Kelce will face off at Rupp Arena on December 14th. Kelce was named the new head coach of the Cardinals after Louisville fired Kenny Payne, who had coached the Cardinals for two seasons. Shortly after the Cardinals hired their new head coach, John Calipari of the University of Kentucky announced his retirement after 15 years with the program. After a search process, the University of Kentucky named Pope to replace Calipari. The December 14th showdown will be the earliest series since the two faced off on November 27, 1993. That game was the season opener.
