Former Temple University football player and current Commanders kicker Brandon McManus has been accused of sexual assault against two women, ESPN's Michael DiRocco reported Monday afternoon. McManus signed a one-year contract with the Commanders in March, and the incidents occurred last season while he was with the Jaguars.
The two women are suing the Jaguars, who they say failed to create a safe environment for McManus to serve the team and failed to supervise his conduct.
“We were made aware today of the civil lawsuit that was filed against Brandon McManus on May 24th,” a Commanders spokesperson said in a statement to Temple News. “We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are investigating the matter. We have been in contact with league office and Brandon's representatives and will have no further comment at this time.”
The women, who both worked as flight attendants for the team, filed suit Friday night in Duval County Circuit Court and reportedly allege that McManus sexually assaulted them on Sept. 28 while en route to London for a team game against the Falcons last season.
The report also alleges that McManus attempted to kiss one of the flight attendants and grinned at her while serving food during the flight. A second flight attendant accused McManus of doing the same while serving food to the team on a second flight. The second flight attendant confronted McManus about the situation, but McManus allegedly grinned and walked away, according to the report.
The women are seeking a jury trial and more than $1 million in damages. McManus has not yet commented on the case, but is expected to do so later Monday night, ESPN reported.
