Georgia coach Kirby Smart has made a habit of quickly replacing assistants who move on for better conditions, and Glenn Schumann could be the next candidate. Here's the latest.
Georgia football fans are used to cuts to the coaching staff, having replaced four position coaches last offseason – DB, WR, Co-DC and RB – a relatively drastic shake-up for the Bulldogs, but it comes at a time when Georgia teams have had success under head coach Kirby Smart.
One assistant coach Georgia fans are fearful will leave is defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann. He is arguably the best defensive coordinator in the sport and has been one of the top defensive coordinators for the last few years, even though he is only 34. He has already turned down multiple other job offers, including the NFL defensive coordinator position with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now, some in the college football media believe Schumann could be the next big thing in the inevitable big-time coaching search.
Given former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning's success as Oregon's head coach, it's only a matter of time before the Bulldogs' DC role becomes a springboard for a new head coach. Georgia hasn't been as dominant the past two seasons as it was under Lanning in 2021, but Schumann still has an elite team under his belt. The 34-year-old Schumann began working with Kirby Smart as a student assistant at Alabama in 2008 and has been with him throughout the Bulldogs' rise to become one of college football's top teams.” – Glenn Schumann, CBSSports
