The Nevada Wolfpack needed a fresh start after back-to-back two-win seasons, and maybe they can get that under new head coach Jeff Choate, a former Texas assistant.
Things may not turn around anytime soon, as Nevada will open the 2024 campaign against a powerhouse conference opponent with a potent offensive force.

As of May 27, the Wolfpack are 21-point underdogs heading into their Week 0 matchup against the SMU Mustangs with odds of -110, according to DraftKings.
In 2023, SMU averaged 38.71 points per game and allowed 17.79 points per game. Nevada averaged 17.33 points per game last season and allowed 33.42 points per game.

This year's matchup between Nevada and SMU will mark the seventh time the two schools have met. The series is currently tied at 3-3. The 2024 matchup will be the first since 2009. The two schools were in the same conference in the Western Athletic Conference from 2000-2005.
Now, the Mustangs have won the American Athletic Conference championship and are set to play their first season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2024. Nevada is still looking to win its first conference championship since winning the WAC in 2010.
