Authorities in Louisa County, Virginia, say a father and son drowned while visiting Lake Anna over Memorial Day weekend.
According to a statement from the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened Saturday around 1:10 p.m. near Carrs Bridge Road.
“On their way to the scene, police received a report that the father was attempting to search for and rescue his son,” police said. “Witnesses reportedly saw the father struggling, but shortly afterwards he also disappeared from sight.”
Several people tried to find the 42-year-old man and 14-year-old boy before authorities arrived but were unsuccessful.
Emergency personnel found their bodies a short time later and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
“The victims of this tragedy are from out of state and their names will not be released until next of kin have been notified,” police said.
The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office.
