Michigan State is starting over in many aspects of its football program, with coach Jonathan Smith installing a new offensive line in East Lansing, and according to On3 Sports, running back Nate Carter is enjoying the changes in Coach Smith's offensive line.
“Coach Smith has brought in a professional-caliber offensive line that has really helped me improve my game, and I think this whole offensive line is going to get better,” Carter said. “So I love this offensive line. I'm excited. I think we're going to see a lot of big plays, a lot of explosive plays.”
Carter noted the team has been paying attention to small details this spring, which he hopes will translate into success during the season.
“One of the things we wanted to focus on this spring was doing the simple things right,” Carter said. “I think we did that offensively and defensively. It was a great, competitive game and a great atmosphere. Shout out to the crowd, the fans and everyone who came out. It was really good to see everyone out in Spartan Stadium cheering on the Spartans. It was a good day for us.”
“It all comes down to the details, and that's what we've been focusing on,” Carter said. “This week in practice we've been focusing on the details. As we've progressed all spring and learned our offense, once things started to get going, the details started to smolder. So we've had to take a step back and make sure we focus on the details.”
Carter has noticed a change in his teammate since last season and expects that to continue.
“The energy's been building since the start of spring games until now,” Carter said. “The players are excited. They want to get in the building. There are smiles on the players' faces. The coaches are smiling. We're connecting more with the coaches, not just on a football level, but on a personal level. They want to get to know us as guys and help us grow as men.”
“I think that was missing last year. It's important to our staff to help us grow, not just as football players, but as people. You can see the guys having fun on defense. When we're competing in games, we're having fun. We love each other and we're going to continue to build. We're going to continue to grow in terms of building team chemistry with each other throughout the summer and into the fall. We really are a family and we treat them as such.”
