Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are under intense scrutiny from experts and fans after Saturday's IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Wild celebrations erupted inside his M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore as RCB defeated his CSK and secured a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. RCB players were criticized for not shaking hands with MS Dhoni, who could have played his last match in the IPL as CSK missed out on the playoffs.
RCB supporters also had to face anger on social media for heckling CSK fans outside the stadium during their exaggerated victory celebrations.
In one such viral video, a CSK fan was manhandled by RCB supporters who surrounded the man outside the stadium and mocked Saturday's result.
RCB's post-match celebrations may seem a little unnecessary, but there's no denying the fact that they deserve to be in the playoffs.
The team lost seven of their first eight games and languished at the foot of the standings. However, since then, they have won six straight games and qualified for the playoffs.
Qualifier 2 and final of this year's IPL are scheduled to be held at CSK's home base Chepauk. Ever since the announcement was made, fans have been hoping to see Dhoni and his team lift the trophy in front of the home fans on May 26. However, in an eventful season, the CSK franchise failed to even make it to the playoffs.
Dhoni, 42, was widely expected to retire after leading his team to a record fifth title last year, but after knee surgery he vowed to return for another season.
Dhoni handed over the Chennai captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the season, who won the toss and was picked first in what was effectively a knockout match to decide the final playoff spot.
Dhoni stood in front of RCB's playoff hopes and added 61 runs for the seventh wicket along with veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, but Yash Dayal dismissed Dhoni to sway the match in RCB's favor.
