A Georgia football wide receiver was arrested early Saturday morning on two driving-related charges.
Freshman Sacoby White was charged with reckless driving and “one-way traffic” for allegedly driving the wrong way on the road after being stopped by Athens-Clarke County police.
He was booked into the Clark County Jail at 3:04 a.m. Saturday and released an hour later on bail totaling $26, according to the Clark County Jail's online booking report.
White becomes the second Georgia football player to be arrested on reckless driving charges in the past two months in Athens.
Running back Trevor Etienne was also charged with DUI and lane maintenance failure for the March 24 incident. Per athletic department policy, he could be suspended for the season opener against Clemson for drunk driving. Police said Etienne was traveling between 80 and 90 mph on a 50 mph road.
White had two catches for 29 yards, returned a kickoff 21 yards and a 26-yard touchdown in Georgia's G-Day spring game last month.
White, a three-star signee, enrolled early from Cass High School in Cartersville.
Cass coach Steve Gates said he had been home but returned to campus to participate in Georgia's recruiting “scavenger hunt” over the weekend.
“It was a great weekend in Athens. A lot happened across campus,” Gates said Sunday. “He made the mistake of swerving onto a one-way street. What I'm proud of is that there was no drunken speeding ticket, which would have obviously been disappointing. But the traffic violation He will never go down that path again because it happens regularly.”
Georgia football players have been arrested or charged with speeding and reckless driving more than a dozen times since the Jan. 15, 2023, crash that killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandry LeCroy. It was.
No further details were available Sunday about the incident involving White. Georgia State did not respond to a request for comment Sunday morning.
