BROOKLYN (WABC) — Saturday's RBC Brooklyn Half drew more than 26,000 runners.
The event, which has been held for more than 40 years, celebrates New York City's most populous borough, passing by iconic locations such as the Brooklyn Museum, Grand Army Plaza, and Prospect Park, and ending at famous Coney Island. It takes runners on a 21.1-mile tour. Promenade.
Known as the unofficial kickoff to summer, the RBC Brooklyn Half draws thousands of runners from Brooklyn, many of whom are members of the borough's nearly 100 running clubs and the New York Road Runners' It stands out throughout the year.
New York Road Runners, a New York City-based nonprofit organization, hosts 60 races a year for adults and youth, including the Brooklyn Half.
The RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon inspired the next generation of runners as more than 1,700 youth ages 2 to 18 participated in the free Boardwalk Kids Run Dash and 1-mile race.
The race includes Team WRK, Goldfinger, Prospect Park Track Club, Spartan Sundays Run Club, South Brooklyn Running Club, Ocean Parkway Runners, Crown Heights Running Club, and more. More than 2,000 members of the Brooklyn-based running club will participate.
