HAMMOND, La. – Senior guard Haley Giarratano of the Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team was named to the Southland All-Academic First Team, it was announced at the conference Friday morning.
Giarratano, a native of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, has earned this honor for the third consecutive season. Giarratano added this accomplishment to his collection of awards this final season, including preseason All-Conference First Team, Player of the Week, and All-Conference First Team. The fifth-year senior reached his 1,000th career point and helped the Lady Lions advance to the semifinals in his championship of the SLC Women's Basketball Tournament.
Southeastern finished the 2023-24 season with a 19-12 record and 14-4 in conference play. Giarratano led SLU in scoring (12.2 points), assists (94 points) and minutes played (35.4 minutes) this season, maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 4.00. The veteran guard broke the Lady Lions' all-time game appearance record and ranked first in program history in free throw percentage (80.0).
To qualify for All-Academic, an athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 through the semester prior to the sports championship, complete at least one academic year at the nominated school prior to the current season, and attend the next competition. must participate. Appeared in at least 50% of the team's competitions during the most recently completed season. Candidates for Student-Athlete of the Year must hold at least a 3.5 GPA and complete at least two years of competitive competition at the nominating school, including this season.
