Many of Marin's top collegiate soccer players will return home this summer to join Marin FC's pre-pro teams, the Legends and Sirens.
“We strive to provide a competitive environment for our kids to train and compete at a high level over the summer to prepare them for the upcoming college season,” Siren coach Tyler Gottschalk said. he said.
The Sirens play in the United Soccer League W (USL W), while the Men's Legends team competes in USL 2. The league's teams are primarily made up of players from top college programs.
Both teams are scheduled to begin their campaigns with road games this weekend. The Sirens will visit Stockton Cargo for a game Saturday at 7 p.m., while the Legends open with a road game against Davis Legacy SC.
The Legends' first home game is scheduled for May 29th at Marin Catholic High against Almaden FC. The Sirens will play their home opener against the California Storm on June 5th at the College of Marin.
“It's great to play against a team that plays at that level,” Gottschalk said. “It's only going to make our kids better, but it's definitely a big, big challenge.”
Some of the top players to come through the county in recent years are on this season's Siren roster, including the past two MCAL Player of the Year Maren Jones from Tam College and former Branson School standout Patricia DePalma. ing.
DePalma finished his freshman campaign at Pomona-Pitzer. She started 17 games as a goalie, recording eight shutouts and leading the Sage Hens to a 16-1-3 record. DePalma was selected to the West Division first team, and she is one of three Marin-based players on Pomona-Pitzer's roster, along with Eliana Prosnitz (Branson) and Elodie Mortimer (Marin Academy). Former Redwoods standout Brianna Salvetti is also on this season's siren roster after scoring 10 goals in her sophomore season at St. Mary's College. Lena Sugrue (Branson) helped lead her Tufts team to the Division III semifinals last year. Noel Namba (Branson) started 15 games in midfield for Vassar College. Sidney Boyd (Tam) had 10 goals and six assists last year at UC Santa Cruz.
There are several high school players on the roster who are about to make the college leap, including Tam's Jones and Branson's Caitlin Capitolo, who will join Sugrue at Tufts next year. MA junior Raya Leikin and Branson freshman Julia Myerberg are also on the roster.
Legends features several players from top high school programs such as Marin Academy, Terra Linda, and Tam.
The Wildcats are represented by Aiden Alley, Ethan Carr, Tyler Huck, Alex Heyward, and Malcolm Zarayet, who will begin his collegiate career at the University of California next season.
Zalayet had an impressive performance for MA last season with 41 goals and 10 assists in 24 games.
TL's varsity team will be led by UC Davis defensive midfielder Jason Suh, as well as Chris Maldonado and Elvin Maldonado from the 2022 MCAL, North Coast Section, NorCal Championship Team.
Chris Maldonald was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team after appearing in 16 games for the University of San Francisco last season.
Former Tam standout Trevor Islam, the 2022 MCAL Player of the Year, is also on the team. Islam plays club soccer at Stanford University.
