Hardik Pandya reflected on MI's disappointing IPL 2024 season and admitted that the team failed to play quality cricket. Hardik felt that the MI team will miss out on the tournament if they do not participate as per the norms. MI finished at the bottom of the table after conceding 18 runs against LSG at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday, May 17th. MI couldn't end the season on a high as they lost in the final home match and it was only Rohit's stunning knockout of 68 that got the fans cheering.
Speaking to broadcasters after MI's loss to LSG, Hardik said it was a very difficult season for the franchise. Hardik went on to say that the team failed to play quality cricket and that reflected in the result. He felt the entire season had gone poorly for the five-time champion. “It's quite difficult. We haven't played quality cricket this season and it's cost us the whole season. It's a professional world, so there are good days and bad days. As a group, we haven't played quality cricket. It was some smart cricket and it showed in the result. It's too early to point out exactly what went wrong tonight. How bad was MI's IPL 2024?
This is the second time in the last three years that MI has finished last. Prior to 2024, MI She finished last in 2022, something she had never experienced before.
MI finished the 2022 auction cycle with a win-loss record of 17-27, the worst record of the 10 teams. Nine of those wins came in the 2023 season alone. It wasn't the season the team and fans had hoped for after a much-debated captaincy change.
