OMAHA, Neb. โ Omaha Supernovas outside hitter Bethania de la Cruz won the Best Server award, and Ristina Vucikova and Brooke Nuneviller earned All-League honors, the Professional Volleyball Federation announced Tuesday. I joined the team.
The award was awarded by a vote of seven head coaches in the league. Each head coach could not vote for himself or his players.
Delacruz made a total of 32 aces in 24 games, overwhelming his rivals on his way to winning the Best Server award. Her ace total is 11 more than her closest competitors, Orlando's Wilma Rivera and Adora Anae, who finished the season with 21. Delacruz's best serving performance came early in the season, when she set the PVF record for most aces in 2016. It will be a six-man singles match against Vegas Thrill on February 7th and Grand Rapids Rise on February 12th.
Nuneviller was one of PVF's most productive outside hitters in his first season. The Omaha team captain had a team-high 280 kills on the season and ranked eighth in the league with an average of 3.33 kills per set. The Oregon product also excelled defensively, finishing seventh in the PVF with 279 digs, which equates to a 3.32 digs per set average. These totals are second among non-liberos.
Although she missed out on the Best Middle Blocker award, Vuchkova led the league in total blocks with 70 and secured a spot on the All-League Second Team. The Bulgarian finished two blocks ahead of winner Kaz Brown, who had 68 blocks in 20 sets, more than Vuchkova. Supernova's middle blocker averaged 0.85 blocks per set and had seven matches with five or more blocks. That includes a franchise-record six blocks against the San Diego Mojos on April 2nd and again against the Mojos on April 20th.
PVF's MVP and Coach of the Year will be announced at the inaugural 2024 Professional Volleyball Federation Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 16th.
