NEW ULM — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Lake Crystal Welcome Memorial 7-3 on Tuesday afternoon as the Greyhounds improved to 14-4 on the season, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth and scoring in the fifth. Also added 1 point. during a nonconference baseball game at Mueller Park.
Cathedral got the win with Colin Anderson in relief of starter Jake Finstad. Finstad pitched the first four innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out six.
Anderson allowed one earned run and gave up three runs in three innings.
Kayden Larson was in relief for LCWM (10-3). He scored 4 points in 2/3 innings.
Ethan Weems had two triples and two RBIs for the Knights.
For Cathedral, Franta, Anderson and Elliott Chabert each had two hits, and Chabert and Brock Wellman each had two RBIs.
“That's a great AA baseball team.” Cathedral assistant coach Ryan Weir said. “They're going to be the top seed in that section. Overall it was a very good baseball game. And I thought they played well in the second half. First half. [of the game] We had some conflicts. ”
The Greyhounds, who face Janesville Waldorf Pemberton on the road Friday, scored runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.

Anderson took the lead in the first inning with a single to center field, and an error on the play led to his second run.
This marked the end of starting pitcher Jackson Vaughn's day on the mound.
Logan Mielke gave a one-out walk from Larson. Chabert followed with a two-run double for a 4-3 lead.
Forsner reached on an infield error.
Chabert then scored on Wellman's suicide squeeze bunt.
Brock Carlson reached on an infield error and Forsner scored to make it 6-3.
“That's what baseball is like.” Mr. Weir said. “If you hang around, you have time to turn things around. That's why you play seven innings, and today we needed all seven innings.”
Cathedral added an insurance run in the sixth on Franta's scoring single.
Coach Weir said this was Franta's first start of the season.
“We switched and this was Jake's first start. The defense might have helped him a little bit. And I thought he did a great job.” Mr. Weir said. “Then Colin came in and shut the door on them really effectively. That's what good teams do — they bring in good players to help each other out.”
