(Dunlap) — Boyer Valley multi-sport standout Jessica O'Day will be moving on to the next level and playing volleyball at Doan College in Crete, Nebraska.
“I was looking at smaller colleges in the area,” O'Day told KMA Sports. “Two of my cousins go to Doan, so it was kind of like visiting Doan. I loved the campus.”
O'Day said she was able to meet Doan's volleyball coach during her trip.
“We really hit it off,” she said. “I love the campus, I love the school, and that's where my major is. It was a perfect fit in a way.”
But from the time he met with the head coach to now, Doan has a new volleyball coach. The university announced the hiring of Randee Ochinero in January.
“It was definitely stressful,” O'Day said. “I was excited to find a place and school that was a good fit for me because that whole process is stressful for seniors. When I heard they got a new coaching staff, it was very scary for me. I didn't know how that whole process was going to work out, so I reached out to my new coach and AD.[Coach Ochinello]approached me and we really hit it off. She seems like a great woman and coach.”
O'Day led the Bulldogs in hitting last season with 2.8 kills per set and added an average of 2.9 digs.
“(Doan's) atmosphere and chances definitely stood out,” O'Day said. “Everything was wonderful and awesome. I felt like this was the place for me and some of the people I met were really nice and wonderful people. I loved the counselors and the leadership program they offer. I joined the program and the contract was signed.
