Cricket Ireland has reached an agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board for the Irish men's team to tour Pakistan for the first time in 2025.
The two teams will meet in Clontarf today in the third T20 International of the series. Ireland scored an upset win in the first leg and Pakistan are poised to fight back on Sunday. The final will be broadcast here on TNT Sports.
The Irish women's team last year toured Pakistan for the first time in the sport. Pakistan were the opponents in the historic first Test match between the men's and women's teams.
This is one of the world's largest cricket markets and the tour is likely to be a positive in terms of playing experience and revenue generation.
Cricket Ireland chairman Brian McNeice yesterday met with Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi and agreed to a tour tentatively scheduled for August or September.
“I am delighted to welcome Chairman Naqvi to Dublin and we had a very productive meeting,” he said. “The presence of the PCB Chairman in Ireland is very much appreciated and is a strong indicator of the good relationship between the two boards.”
“Discussions were wide-ranging and included consideration of future matches at men's, women's and Wolves level. We are very pleased that we have agreed to host a men's tour next year. This is another historic first for the tour.”
“We were also briefed on developments related to the Pakistan Super League and potential opportunities for Irish players in a PSL franchise.”
“The Pakistan team were great ambassadors for their country last week and were very generous in interacting with fans throughout their time in Ireland. We're really looking forward to tomorrow's series decider and of course next month's T20 World Cup. Masu.”
“The friendship in cricket between Ireland and Pakistan runs very deep. In fact, the first meeting between the two was here in Dublin in 1962, and Pakistan played both our first women's and men's Test matches. He was my opponent.”
“We look forward to this auspicious tour and thank Chairman Naqvi and PCB for their continued friendship and support.”
