Settle Cricket Club has announced this year's entry of an U15 girls' hardball team into the North Region Women's (Hardball) of the West Yorkshire Women's and Women's Cricket League.
Our club has seen a significant increase in the number of registered members over the past few years.
With this growing interest and their improving skills on the pitch, it seemed natural to offer junior girls the opportunity to take part in hard cricket within a dedicated women's league.
On Sunday 5th May, the girls U15 baseball team played their first game against Harrogate Hawks.
Backed by captain Isabel North, some excellent batting and field work saw Settle win by six wickets.
There was also some great news on the international front this week, with U15 baseball player Betsy Caton selected to represent the North Yorkshire Under 13s Regional Girls Team.
Cayton is the first junior female player in the club's history to be selected for regional cricket and the club could not be more proud of her achievement.
Junior chairman Ian Walker said: “In just three years, we've gone from zero women's teams to four women's teams competing in the league, which is an amazing achievement.''
In addition to the U15 girls' baseball team, Settle Cricket Club has three other girls' teams.
namely Women's Development Softball (U10), Women's Softball (U12) and Women's Softball, all of which operate alongside five mixed junior teams, five men's teams and Walking Cricket.
