It's still very strange to say this. The days of Armando Bacot in Chapel Hill are numbered.
After five seasons with the UNC basketball program, his tenure is up, so we won't be looking forward to seeing the No. 5 dominate inside the paint in Chapel Hill.
A lot has changed in Chapel Hill since his arrival. From COVID-19 to Roy Williams' retirement to the hiring of Hubert Davis to replace Williams, Bacot has seen the ups and downs of what college basketball has to offer.
In honor of his legendary career, the UNC basketball program released this special video narrated by Bacot himself.
In just four minutes of video, Bacot seems to talk about a wide range of topics. Of course, he talks about his early days at Chapel Hill and how it influenced the rest of his college career from the beginning.
He became very passionately invested in the community on and off campus, and talks about how Chapel Hill became his home.
One of the most powerful lines in the entire video is when Bacot talks about the changes he has seen in North Carolina during his years on campus.
“Carolina has transitioned into a new generation, and I feel like I’ve been at the forefront of that.”
He goes on to talk about the Carolinas and what they mean to him, and also details how his legacy will be remembered. As expected, Bacot misses being with his teammates, he says, because the bond they form is something that can't usually be replicated at the next level of competition.
In general, the video is a fitting tribute to the program's all-time leading rebounder and second-leading scorer. Certainly, his impact on the court is unforgettable, but what he did for the University of North Carolina as a whole will be remembered for generations to come.
Thank you, Armando.
