Although the next gubernatorial election is still a long way off, the turmoil continues.
Two recent polls show Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis as the top choice among Republican voters in the 2026 election.
But on Monday, Casey's husband, Gov. Ron DeSantis, put a damper on that speculation.
“If I had to characterize her interest in participating in political activity as a candidate, I would characterize it as zero,” DeSantis said with a smile. “She had a front row seat to all the silliness that happens when you do it.”
DeSantis spoke at a news conference announcing a series of new national initiatives aimed at combating human trafficking.
Attempts were made to reach the first lady Monday afternoon, but the governor's press secretary declined to comment and redirected reporters to the governor's comments at Monday's event.
Ron and Casey DeSantis have long been a formidable political team, with Casey serving as the governor's chief political advisor. In 2023 and early 2024, Ms. Casey was a key figure in her husband's presidential campaign, but her campaign ended after the Iowa caucuses in January.
