“Meeting for lunch” used to be commonplace, and no one seemed to think much of it. It was a time when going out with friends, eating delicious food, socializing, and staying connected to your friends and community were all very affordable.
The situation has changed significantly since the new coronavirus. Connection changed. A friend from work has retired or moved. Scheduling time-outs, interacting with others, and staying involved in what's going on has become more difficult than before.
“And whether we want to admit it or not, there is a certain stigma attached to being 'elderly' among the youngest seniors,” said Pat Vailliancourt. Told. “It’s not always easy to attract someone by offering lunch for seniors.”
But now there's a Senior Cafe in Manchester! On Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m., seniors can eat lunch for a donation of $3 to $5. Those under 60 can join him for $5.50 per meal at Manchester United Methodist Church.
This isn't a “free lunch”, but it's more like a modern lunch: affordable, nutritionally balanced, and served on a regular basis.
Additionally, all proceeds from the meals will be used to purchase kitchen supplies for the new senior center renovation, and volunteers from the Manchester Area Council on Aging, along with leadership from the Washtenaw County Community Economic Development Authority, will provide food and and promote regulatory guidance. . Manchester United Methodist Church is opening its doors to create space for all of this to happen.
There's only one thing you need to make this all work. It's the person who eats the food. This is all part of the Patronicity grant, which will be used to raise funds for new equipment at the senior center.
