GIII Honey Bee S winner lemon muffin (Collected), who finished eighth behind Soaped Anna (Fast Anna) in last week's GI Kentucky Oaks, will compete in Friday's GII Black Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico Racecourse. The field of 8 drawn on Sunday also includes: jeanne marie (Spice Star), Lindsay Dinsey (Dial-in), call another play (audible), gun song (Gun Song), who asks (Uncle Mo), corposo (Vino Rosso) and recharge (Gun Runner).
“She has days where she has ups and downs and everything that happens,” Lemon Muffin's trainer D. Wayne Lucas said. “On her best day, she's a very, very nice filly. But she doesn't always show up every time, so I hope one day she shows up.”
Call Another Play won the Weber City Miss Stakes at Laurel on April 20, marking his third straight win for trainer Mike Trombetta and joining Black Eyed Susan.
“She's finally getting continuity and figuring things out in this two-turn race,” Trombetta said. “She was able to cope with it. She's going to have to step up her own game, but it's a matter of how much.”
Black Eyed Susan is one of three graded stakes races opening the Preakness weekend at Pimlico on Friday. Friday's first post is at 11:30 a.m., and Black-Eyed Susan leaves at 5:44 p.m.
