Back in April, South Carolina basketball saw five-star forward prospect Jamier Jones join the Kansas Jayhawks, Providence Flyers, Houston Cougars, Ohio State Buckeyes and LSU Tigers in the top six. I accomplished it. Jones, one of the nation's top athletes in the Class of 2025, announced the final six and also announced the commitment date.
That day was Sunday, May 12th.
On Mother's Day afternoon, Jameer Jones went live on Instagram with On3's Joe Tipton to announce his decision to play for the Providence Flyers and head coach Kim English.
The commitment in basketball is completely different than in football. Typically, players end up attending the school to which they commit. However, Shamcock has had some situations recently where that hasn't been the case. Cam Scott signed with the Texas Longhorns before becoming a Shamcock, and Trent Noah signed and signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks before finishing his contract with the Kentucky Wildcats. . USC also recently flipped Jamaree Thomas' commitment to the VCU transfer portal.
There's no reason to doubt that Jones will end up somewhere other than Providence, but given the recent recruiting frenzy, it's notable that Carolina has been involved in some hires that deviate from the norm. Worth it.
For the Class of 2025, the South Carolina basketball program already has two high school commitments scheduled, with four-star scoring guard Eli Ellis and in-state athletic forward Hayden Asemian joining Lamont Paris in the fall. I promised to contribute to his team.
With five seniors on the roster (so far) and one scholarship spot still remaining heading into the 2024-2025 season, Coach Paris and his staff are looking to increase recruitment through the high school ranks and transfer portal. will continue to aim to fill both rosters. Next season and beyond.
